Stroke volume is determined by four factors:
- The volume of venous blood returned to the heart
- Ventricular distensibility, or the capacity to en-large the ventricle
- Ventricular contractility
- Aortic or pulmonary artery pressure (the pressure against which the ventricles must contract)
