Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
- MC in Preterms
- Term baby with PDA - Think of Rubella
Clinical Features :
- Failure to thrive
- Recurrent infections
- Feeding difficulty
- CHF at 6-10 wks
- Bounding Pulses
- Wide pulse pressure
- Continuous Machinery murmur at Left sternal border
Treatment : (MCQ)
- In Preterms - NSAIDS (only till 1st month after birth)
- In terms - Surgery ( Duct occluder , Insert coils )
Complications :
- CHF at 6-10 wks
- IE
- Eisenmenger syndrome
PDA with eisenmenger syndrome - ( R to L shunt )
- Differential cyanosis i.e only at toes (Not at fingers) (MCQ)
