Cushing's Triad and reflex vs Syndrome and disease
Cushing's Triad is seen in cases of raised intracranial pressure.
It consists of :
- Hypertension
- Bradycardia
- Irregular Respiration
There is a widened pulse pressure (with elevated systolic and a either decreased or normal diastolic BP).
This physiological nervous system response to increased ICP in the form of cushing's triad is termed as Cushing's Reflex.
Cushing's Syndrome
It is a syndrome caused due to inappropriately high levels of the hormone cortisol.
When the cause is pituitary (eg: adenoma) then it is termed Cushing's disease.
